Anaya’s Lakehouse, perched in a very green and unspoilt corner of Panangad. This quaint village is on the outskirts of Cochin, between the banks of the Kaithapuzha lake and Vembanad lake.

The main family house was designed by Tony Joseph, a brilliant architect from Calicut, in a contemporary style, inspired by the traditional tile factories of Trichur. The guest house was renovated by Karl Damschen , a Swiss architect, to extend our home’s experience to our guests.

The Lakehouse comes with two rooms, a living and dining space with a kitchenette and a little balcony facing the small football turf.

Bruno, our dog is a bit fussy when it comes to new faces, but nothing to worry as he is mostly leashed to his kennel. We also have a beautiful garden and a small swimming pool very close to the lake.

Enjoy your evenings by the lake, while our cook prepares fresh catch to accompany your sundowner.

A Bit About Us

Our Story

The lake house was built by my mother, Thressiamma, so that she could live close to us in her old age. The house was then gifted by her to Anaya, my youngest daughter. The family, including Anaya’s older siblings- Alex and Tia, stay in the main Villa in the same compound. We love to host our friends who visit us on most weekends. This inspired us to make our passion our work too.

Since all our guests are like family, staying with us is going to be very memorable and fun for sure. We love to entertain you and take care of all your needs during your stay here. Adventure awaits you with a number of memories and experiences like cycling along the paddy fields and aqua farming, paddling down the lake and trying your hand at fishing, visiting the local temples and churches, sporting activities like Sailing and Kayaking for which access is available for our guests at the Global Sailing Club close by.

OUR EXPERIENCES

Backwater Cruise

Sunset or Sunrise cruise on our motorboat

Enjoy a cruise on the open backwaters. The sights, breezes, sounds and smells of the late evenings are indeed very soothing. If you are lucky you might also catch the moonrise.

Birdwatching

a birdwatchers paradise!

For bird watchers the backwaters offer ample opportunities for sighting kingfishers, woodpeckers, egrets, cormorants, herons, coucals, snakebirds (darter), teal, and a wide range of both wetland, woodland and garden species as well as birds of prey like the magnificent Brahminy eagle.

Adventure Sports

Kayak and Sail in Vembanad Lake

Kayaking can be done before 7 am in the morning and Sailing can be done only in the evening till 5:30 pm. The trainers at the Global Sailing Club hosted by OC Thomas are experienced national level trainers.

Canoe Ride

Paddle away through the lake on a traditional Vallam

Take a canoe ride on the village backwaters on country boats without outboard motors. This ride offer glimpses of the rural life with its toddy tapping, fishing and coir making activities.

Cycling

Local sights on a cycle

Cycle along paddy fields and aqua farms near Anayas and experience the village life firsthand. You can stop by a local tea shop and strike a conversation with the villagers.

Escorted Walk

Let us show you around the village

Go on an escorted walk with one of our family or staff and learn about farming below lake level as well as the different crops cultivated. We will take you the temples, churches and other cultural destinations around Anaya’s.

Toddy Shop visit

Taste the authentic palm wine

During your boat cruise or while on a walk across the village, you could visit the toddy shop. Toddy is the indigenous Kerala beverage extracted from the inflorescence of the coconut tree. The toddy is collected in a clay pot. Freshly extracted toddy is sweet in taste and is called madhura kallu – sweet toddy.

Fishing

Grab a fishing rod and go angling!

Try fishing (rods available). Guests may enjoy watching and participating in hauling up the catch in the evenings. This is a seasonal activity, depending on water flow, weather and time of year.

Meet Kumaresan and Omana, the onsite staff at Anaya’s Lakehouse. Kumaresan, our butler will be there to take care of your every need. Omana, our chef whips up magic in the kitchen!

Green
Paddlers

Our Social Initiative of cleaning the backwaters in association with a non-profit organization called the ”GREEN PADDLERS” is what makes us unique from others. This environmentally driven NGO aims to spread awareness about the correct disposal of plastics, cleaning and reclaiming the lake.

Nearly 70kgs of garbage was collected daily by green paddlers. With the green paddlers cleaning drive and awareness, the garbage rate has dropped considerably.
